Phase two

Our members have been meeting with their Ministry of Education counterparts to continue the work on Phase 2 of the Joint Initiative - focusing on the six core areas where we identified more work was needed following last year's work (Phase 1).

Our strong emphasis has been on keeping the child at the centre of all considerations while identifying roles, resourcing and evidence-informed practices that will:

  • grow opportunities for our support staff and early childhood teacher members to be fully recognised and involved in Communities of Learning,
  • develop understanding about how Maori and Pasifika children's success can be enhanced through Communities of Learning,
  • ensure the alignment of proposed professional learning and development with other changes in the sector, and
  • recognise the importance of inclusive education practices.

The workstreams will report to the Joint Initiative Governance Group (a group of MoE and NZEI people) by the end of February with recommendations.
