Preparing for Resourced Classroom Release Time

Kia ora...

Read on to find out how the process to implement Classroom Release Time -- provided for all full time classroom teachers from Term 4 2005 -- involves you!

CRT was negotiated as part of the 2004 Primary Teachers Collective Agreement and will provide 10 hours classroom release a term for full time teachers to address workload while maximising benefits to student learning.

Guidance and Resources

NZEI has been working with NZSTA and the Ministry to prepare guidelines and resources to help schools to understand CRT and to design a policy for its use in each school.

The Guidelines for Classroom Release Time booklet explains how your school can go about the process of agreeing policy and thinking about CRT implementation.

You can download a CRT policy template either as a pdf or word document which "walks you through" designing a school policy.

Resources for Meeting Presenters

The principal and NZEI teacher site rep of every school was invited to an after-school meeting in 2005 to discuss designing a policy for your school.

A number of resources were developed for those presenting at the meetings. These include speaker's briefing notes, and a template for briefing Boards on CRT.
