Guidelines on Physical Contact with Children

NZEI has released its new guidelines on physical contact with children, to assist its members who work as teachers and support staff in schools and early childhood education centres. You can read our media release or download a PDF of the Guidelines.

Support Staff Recruitment

11,500 support staff belong to NZEI and membership is growing. However, another 10,000 support staff don't belong to the union.

This is a problem for all support staff. Only by having as many support staff as possible join the union will you have the strength to make the Government, the Ministry of Education and the school trustees, start taking support staff seriously.

Every member that joins increases your strength, and makes it harder for them to resist your claims in the negotiations. And to resist your calls for a fairer and more effective funding system.

The single most important thing you can do to improve your pay and working conditions, is to persude a support staff colleague, who is not a member of NZEI to join the union.
