Principals endorse career path direction

Primary teachers and principals have voted to endorse the direction NZEI Te Riu Roa is taking to develop a clearer career path for teachers and to address their workload.

They cast their votes at more than 200 paid union meetings held in school time throughout the country. The meetings are part of preparation for next year’s negotiations to renew the teachers and principals collective agreements.

Timeline of key dates for term one and two - 2007

Start of term one, 2007	Letter sent to all principals outlining timelines for 2007 paid union meetings for teachers and principals and with update on the LTWP
February / March	Face to face meetings with identified principals’ association clusters
April 13	Final report of the LTWP due for completion
Week beginning April 30	Meeting of PPCA negotiating team to finalise PPCA claims
May 2	Initiation of bargaining
Week beginning May 7	National Executive teleconference to vote on proposed PPCA claim
June 11 - 22	Paid Union Meetings for all principals covered by the PPCA
Week beginning June 25	National Executive teleconference to vote on final PPCA claim
June 29	Presentation of claims to the Ministry
June 30	PPCA expires
August ?	Negotiations begin
