KEY POINTS:

• Annual Meeting 2007 received a report on a consultation process for a review of NZEI’s special education policy.
• The report began a process of consultation with all members. Originally circulated in July to District Councils, Branches, Aronui Tōmua and Komiti Pasefika it is now being sent to all worksites.
• The report includes a series of focus questions which all members individually or as branches, district councils or networks have been invited to complete. The final date for completing the feedback form has been extended to 21 December.
• Early next year a working group, representative of NZEI’s membership, will consider these responses along with current NZEI special education policy. Following that, further membership input will be sought prior to the new policy document being presented to Annual Meeting 2008.
• The current NZEI policy document can be found on the website www.nzei.org.nz. This contains special education policy agreed since 1999.

ACTION:

Branch, aronui tōmua, komiti Pasefika and District Council officials:

• Members, worksites, branches, district councils, or networks wishing to respond should complete and return the response sheet by 21 December 2007. Alternatively check with your local or regional NZEI office for meetings that may have already been arranged to discuss the report.
