Haka on delivery of 1000 Community Statements to Parliament, March 31 2010
Campaign Highlights
In Term 1 of 2010 we went on a bus tour from Kaitaia and Bluff to Parliament, to raise community awareness of the potential negative impact of National Standards and call for a trial. We visited over 250 communities and schools and returned to Wellington, tired, sunburnt, but fired-up.
In February we conducted a UMR poll of New Zealanders that showed emphatic support for a trial.
On March 31 we delivered to Parliament over 1000 school community statements, calling for a trial of the standards from schools across New Zealand.
On June 22 we presented our community petition to MPs at Parliament, signed by more than 37,000 New Zealanders, expressing their deep concern with the government's National Standards.
On June 27 The Auckland Primary Principals’ Association called for a boycott of National Standards Training, snowballing the opposition against the standards and capturing the media's attention.
On September 20 NZEI President Frances Nelson and concerned parent Bill Courtney made a submission to the Parliamentary Select Committee on National Standards.
