Access to free quality public education is a fundamental human right that NZEI Te Riu Roa has promoted since its inception.

"Schools as Human Rights Communities" is a project of the Human Rights Network of Aotearoa New Zealand. It aims at developing school communities where human rights principles are reflected in both the formal and informal curriculum, with the result that New Zealand schools generate young citizens who are knowledgeable about and committed to human rights.
