Women's Network

Women not only "hold up half the sky", they make up more than 75 percent of NZEI's membership. NZEI's Women's Network focuses attention on issues such as pay and employment equity, work-life balance and human rights, as well as issues for Māori and Pasifika women, and women of colour.

With a theme of "Girls just want to have fun??” The southern region Women's Network met at Hanmer Springs from 5-7 September 2008. Topics discussed included Stress – life/work balance and Managing Conflict.

New Zealand Census of Women's Participation
If New Zealand aspires to being a highly-skilled economy in the modern, global marketplace we need to maximise the talent pool of both men and women at work. The New Zealand Census of Women’s Participation 2008 shows how we are responding to these challenges. The results reveal a worrying report card for women’s equality.

Flexible Working Hours
The CTU advocates for all workers to request flexible working hours, to help establish a culture that recognises workers' considerable responsibilities outside of the work place and support quality of family life.
