Looking for a cheap holiday just minutes from Lake Rotorua?
NZEI offers members accommodation in the tourist capital of New Zealand, in two units towards the south end of Rotorua city . The units are available for hire for holiday accommodation or convalescence from rates as low as $30 a night!
If you're convalescing, talk to your field officer or member support personnel (MSP) about getting a letter or support from them which will enable you to stay at the units for just $30 a night. You will get priority booking anytime except for during school holidays.
For holidays, members pay $50 a night per unit, and non-members are charged $60.
Location/environs
The units are situated just four minutes from the centre of Rotorua and the lake, near the Whakarewarewa geothermal area and forest park, the golf course and the Distinction Hotel. There is a regular bus service past the door. The address of the units is 10 McKee Ave, Rotorua.
Directions
Tihi-o-tonga suburb is at the Taupo end of Rotorua. Turn off Old Taupo Rd. at Waiariki Polytech onto Mokoia Dr. then right at the top of the hill, and right again into Kerswell Tce.
Facilities
The units are self-catering, self-service two bedroom units sleeping 4-6 people each.
- 1 double bedroom and 1 twin bedroom
- 1 double sofa-bed in lounge (including duvets and pillows for all beds)
- A fully equipped kitchen, including microwave, fridge freezer and stove
- Television
- Laundry with auto washer and ironing facilities
- Carport and private back yard.
You need to provide your own linen (sheets, pillowcases, towels, tea towels etc) as well as cleaning and toiletry items (soap, toilet paper, cleaners and cloths). There are no telephones in the units. The units are not serviced and use is on a "leave as you found it' basis. A list of instructions in the units needs to be read on arrival and departure.
No smoking and no animals are permitted in the units.

Bookings can be made up to six months in advance. A deposit of $40 (one nights accommodation) will secure a booking. Unsecured bookings will be held for two weeks only - thereafter they will be made available to other enquirers. Please note that convalescence has priority booking.
Unit charge rates per night (irrespective of number of occupants) - inc. GST:
a: convalescence.......................... $30
b: holidays (members)..................$50
c: holidays (non members)...........$60
Please note: Keys must be collected and returned to the letterbox of the booking officers (3 Kerswell Tce, Tihi-o-tonga, Rotorua.). Please make sure you take the key for the unit you have booked to avoid confusion.
