AN UPDATE FROM YOUR NEGOTIATING TEAM LEADER

NZEI Negotiations Primary Principals banner

March 2007

KEY POINTS:

  • This year, NZEI is using email magazines (e-zines) to keep you updated on the negotiations process for both the PPCA (principals’ agreement) and the PTCA (teachers’ agreement). Principal to Principal e-zines will come out regularly until the PPCA has been settled.
  • This first Principal to Principal has already been sent out as an e-zine and, as a one off, it is being delivered as a printed copy (see over).
  • Please note; in future Principal to Principal will be sent by e-zine only (refer to ‘Action’ below).
  • All key meeting and voting information will continue to be sent by post.
  • Printed copies of the timelines and a list of the Bargaining Team members referred to in the Team Leader’s letter are included with this update.

ACTION:

  • If you have received this Principal to Principal letter in hard copy form only, i.e. not as an e-zine, and you would like to subscribe to the e-zine email list, please send your e-mail contact details to subscribepl@nzei.org.nz by Wednesday 15 March.

23 February 2007
Kia ora, greetings to you all.

The NZEI National President has appointed me as the team leader for the 2007 PPCA negotiating team. I also had this role at the last negotiations in 2004 and see this year as a chance to complete the unfinished business from the last round of negotiations. I'm also one of the three NZEI representatives overseeing the primary LTWP (Long Term Work Programme), an exciting opportunity to introduce some very positive changes to our sector. The LTWP will underpin this year’s negotiations.

The negotiation of the PTCA will be completed before the PPCA is negotiated because of the flow-on effect of this to principals.

It is important that we principals have a good understanding of what is intended because it will be us who implement the outcomes in our schools. NZEI will continue to “keep you in the loop” about this work.

A number of NZEI materials have come in to your school this year that are designed to keep you informed and to provide you with “real-time” information around important issues, such as the resources supporting induction programmes for Beginning Teachers and the timeframe for paid union meetings. Below is a list of web page addresses for the updates if you have missed them. NZEI mail comes directly to your named site rep and it is their responsibility to pass copies of all material addressed to principals on to you as it comes in to the school.

To prepare you for the negotiations process, including the work necessary to support your teachers in the development of their claims, we are providing you with timelines for the first two terms. Lists of these timelines are provided (see below). Further details will come out as e-zines, as dates, times and venues are finalised in each region.

The National President has nominated the bargaining team for this year’s negotiations of the PPCA. A full list of the members of the bargaining team is provided here.

Thanks in anticipation of your support and involvement in what will be a busy and hopefully successful set of negotiations this year.
