KEY POINTS:
- 90% of kindergarten members voting in the ballot have endorsed the 2007 claim.
- The claim has been forwarded to the Ministry of Education and NZEI will meet with them on 21 February to answer questions about the claim.
- Negotiations are scheduled to take place on 16, 17 and 18 April and 1, 2 and 3 May 2007.
- Report back Paid Union Meetings will be scheduled to take place in May.
ACTION:
- Display the kindergarten claims chart in your kindergarten for members’ easy reference.
- Discuss the claim with your colleagues and within your networks.
- Be ready to attend Paid Union Meetings when they are scheduled.

- Make sure the NZEI members in your team read this newsletter.
- Check with any relievers in your kindergarten, who are NZEI members, that they have read this newsletter.
- Discuss union membership with any non-members in your kindergarten and encourage them to join. Membership forms can be downloaded at www.nzei.org.nz .

Ballot Results
The ballot to endorse the 2007 claim closed at 5pm on Friday 16 February. Over 1,000 members voted with 90% voting for the claim and 10% voting against.
Thank you for taking part in this ballot. Written feedback that was received has been recorded and will be considered throughout the process.
The Claim
The draft claim, as sent to you in the previous newsletter is now the claim that will be presented to the Ministry and employers. You can also view and download the claim from www.nzei.org.nz .
Enclosed with this newsletter is a poster of the claim. It can be displayed in your kindergarten. Please use this for your easy reference.
Dates for Negotiations
The NZEI and Ministry teams will meet on 21 February. The NZEI team will answer questions to clarify the claim for the employers. A Ministry consultation process that includes the employers and Government will follow.
Negotiations will begin on 16, 17 and 18 April. Subsequent dates have been scheduled: 1, 2 and 3 May.
