Teacher Registration Information

NZEI supports teacher registration, as it protects and maintains professional standards, and ensures teacher quality. By monitoring teacher qualifications, character, practice and ongoing professional learning, registration assists with quality teaching and learning for students.

Teacher registration requirements and information can be found on the   New Zealand Teachers Council website (www.teacherscouncil.govt.nz). NZEI provides advice to members on teacher registration, please call 0800 NZEI HELP for assistance with individual enquiries.

Limited Authority to Teach (LAT) is not a form of registration, however NZEI advice is provided here. A LAT is an authority for a person to teach in a specified school/centre in a temporary capacity. LATs may be issued for a variety of roles but should only be used in cases where registered teachers cannot be found.
