BN 2008/19 - Organisational Review Consultation - Term One 2009

The Organisational Review Steering Group is developing a proposal for the design and operation of NZEI Te Riu Roa structures. Consultation on these proposed structures and ways of working will occur between February and April 2009. All Branches, Aronui Tomua, Komiti Pasifika, networks and District Councils should plan to facilitate meetings for members to discuss and debate the proposals.

NN 2008/81 - Insurance Policies and Business use of Private Vehicles

NZEI has investigated the issue of insurance policies and the use of members’ private staff vehicles on their employer’s business. NZEI’s advice is that it is common for standard insurance policies for private motor vehicles to limit insurable risk by excluding cover for private vehicles while they are being used for business purposes.

World Teachers Day is the annual Education International/UNESCO day held to highlight the value and status of teachers. NZEI is celebrating World Teachers Day this year on Friday October 31st. The theme of the day is “Teachers matter!”.

NN 2008/73 - NZTC Consultation

The New Zealand Teachers Council is reviewing the current Satisfactory Teacher Dimensions. It has developed a revised set to be known as the Registered Teacher Criteria (RTC). These are now available in draft format for consultation, together with questions on the assessment of teachers.

Debate about the future of public education is too important to leave to the politicians, especially in election year. NZEI Te Riu Roa has therefore registered under the Electoral Finance Act as a "third party" so that it fully and safely plays its part in public debate.

MR 2008/42 - Fair Pay for Education's Invisible Army

A campaign for fair pay for school support staff is being launched in Rotorua today (Friday August 22nd) at NZEI’s national Support Staff Conference. NZEI, the country’s largest education sector union, represents more than 12,000 support staff in primary, intermediate, area and secondary schools.

NN 2008/65 - Revised NZEI Code of Ethics

Upon joining NZEI, each member accepts a commitment to the NZEI Code of Ethics. Existing members automatically continue to uphold their commitment to the NZEI Code of Ethics. The NZEI Ethics Panel has reviewed the existing Code of Ethics and produced the revised version.
