Plan for Principals
The NZEI Principals’ Council ‘Plan for Principals’ “Awhi mai, awhi atu” has been developed after consultation with principals at association meetings throughout the country by the NZEI National Secretary, Paul Goulter.
The plan is designed to provide increased support for NZEI principal members and has 7 key areas of focus:
- Support for principals in managing employer/employee disputes
- Bargaining of Principals’ Collective Agreements (Primary and Area Schools)
- Information, support and advocacy on industrial matters
- Establishing and maintaining support networks for principals
- Professional development and standards
- Support for new principals
- Providing a collective voice for principals

Contact with NZEI - Protocols for Principals
Protocols around principals contacting NZEI have also been developed and cover a wide range of scenarios including professional issues, industrial advice on behalf of a staff member, a principal's personal employment issue or the principal acting as the employers agent.
