Time running out to register interest ACET interest
Are you a great classroom practitioner? Or do you have highly skilled practitioners in your school that could qualify for recognition as an Advanced Classroom Expertise Teacher (ACET)?
If so it's important you register your interest this week. The deadline is Monday 9 March. Go to the Teach NZ website to download an Expression of Interest form.
ACETs receive an additional $5000 per year on top of their salary. Q1 and Q2 teachers who have gained ACET recognition are also entitled to progress beyond their relevant qualification maxima to Q3 maxima (step 11) on the salary scale.
This is a big step towards both our career path aspirations as well as going some way to addressing long standing issues for our Q1 and Q2 teachers.
After the first ACET recognition process was run last year, 336 primary teachers became recognised as ACETs.
However, since then we've listened to your feedback and improved the process for 2015. You can download a table showing the changes.
Why become an ACET teacher
The $5000 extra in salary per year recognises that great teachers should be able to teach every day, not have to move out of the classroom in order to progress their career pathway aims.
How to become ACET recognised
If you are a teacher you need to have a discussion with your principal this week about your eligibility then make sure you register your interest by sending an Expression of Interest form to Teach NZ.
Principal endorsement ismandatory; the final Expression of Interest form must be signed by the applying teacher's principal. Both the form and a guide for principals are available on the TeachNZ website.
It will take some time over the coming months to compile your portfolio showing your exemplary practice (over and above accepted practice) so you do need to consider if you are able to commit to compiling a porfolio.
Tips to help your application
At this stage you do not have to submit your portfolio showing evidence of exemplary practice. The important thing to do is have your discussion with your principal and submit an Expression of Interest form.
However, it is important to start thinking about your portolio and start collecting evidence of your exemplary teaching practice. This will take some time.
This is your only opportunity this year to become ACET recognised so if you think you may qualify please take the first steps this week!
