Term 4: Urgent lobbying of National MPs for a "pay jolt" for support staff

NZEI’s priorities have not changed with a change in government. Our immediate concern is to lobby the new Government to take up Labour's pledge of a "pay jolt" for low paid support staff.

Please read the lobby network news and briefing paper below to support your lobbying of your local National electorate or list MPs.  You can find their contact details here:

MR 2008/75 - Government can’t afford to shut door on the chalkface

It is incomprehensible that parliament’s education and select committee has voted to deny education sector groups an opportunity to have some input on critical legislation to introduce national standards for literacy and numeracy.

MR 2008/73 - 90 Day Bill rides rough-shod over workers

The government’s 90 Day Bill rides rough-shod over workers and pushing it through parliament as a matter of urgency, is ill-considered and irresponsible. NZEI believes the legislation is unfair and unjustified and there is still confusion over exactly how it will be applied.

MR 2008/54 - Nationals plans will leave Kiwisaver anaemic

National’s proposed changes to Kiwisaver will only serve to make the scheme less attractive. NZEI is concerned that government moves to shut down access to existing schemes available to its members, was on the basis that the ultimate shape of Kiwisaver at 4% employer and 4% employee contributions (4+4) was better than the 3+3 of those existing schemes.
