Support Worker Pay Investigation

NZEI and the Ministry of Education have conducted a pay investigation for special education support workers as a result of recommendations from the pay and employment equity review. The report found a competent support worker should be paid between approximately $2.05 and $3.75 per hour more than the present top step of their scale which is $17.60 per hour. The investigation also found that the fixed term and tenuous nature of the majority of support workers employment was impacting negatively on their pay.

The report has been agreed to by the National secretary of NZEI and The Chief Executive of the Ministry.
